Led by Police Chief Angelo DiMartino, the Exmore Police Department serves the citizens, business owners and visitors of the Town of Exmore, ensuring a safe environment for everyone. In addition to serving as law enforcement officers, they are first responders in emergencies, working in tandem with Northampton County first responders, including the Sheriff’s office and local fire departments. All officers are academy trained and continue training in specialized areas throughout their tenure with the Town. Chief DiMartino and his department continuously interact with the community, participating in activities with local schools and churches and holding raffles for charitable causes. The department also hosts an Annual Easter Egg Hunt, open to all children in the county as well as the only National Night Out on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Led by Fire Chief Greg DeYoung, and department president Tommy Lewis, the Exmore Community Fire Department, is a vital team of first responders responsible for fire suppression and a long list of emergency services related to safeguarding life and protecting the community. These services include light and heavy rescue, vehicle extrication, water rescue, managing hazardous materials and EMS first responder, as well as non-emergency activities. Founded in 1930, Community Fire Company has always prided itself in using the latest equipment and training to provide fire protection to Exmore and the surrounding areas of Northampton and Lower Accomack Counties. In the mid-1960s, the Community Fire Company added Emergency Medical Services to its responsibilities. Unlike some neighboring communities, Exmore and Northampton County still rely 100% on volunteers to handle fire emergencies. The department also organizes and hosts Exmore’s Annual Christmas Parade and participates in numerous other parades and community events, especially those focused on children or young people. That takes many hands, and the organization welcomes volunteers from all backgrounds and occupations.
